Tam Coc, Vietnam

Wow! This was an amazing day. From Hanoi we booked a tour via our hotel to go to Tam Coc in Ninh Binh province. It cost us $35 each and this included transport, lunch, boat and cycle ride. Our tour guide was great, his name was xiếc (si-a) which means circus in English. Because of this he called our group the circus family, so whenever our group would move on he would call 'circus family' to get our attention.

It's about a 2 hour drive from Hanoi to Tam Coc. We stopped to visit some temples built for respecting the ex king. Tam Coc used to be the capital of Vietnam back in the day so these temples where made to honour the king and the general who ruled Vietnam. I bought a hat. (Pete hates it)

Then we had lunch, it was a buffet with yummy Vietnamese food. I took way too much! We sat next to an Australian couple who where nice, we talked about what I was studying and the history of Cambodia for a bit. Then we talked about volunteering and they told us about a project they were involved in, in the Philippines.

After lunch we made our way to Tam Coc centre. There we got on some bikes and went on a ride through the rice fields. It was probably one of the best cycle rides I've been on. The rice fields were beautiful with the giant lime stone cliffs behind them. We rode for about 45mins, it was extremely hot. Pete are I were both sweating unbelievable.

Thankfully we got on a boat next which cooled us down. Our bamboo boat was rowed by a Vietnamese lady. They row the boats with their hands and then when they get tiered, they use their legs which is an incredible skill! The scenery was just beautiful. It was an amazing experience and I couldn't stop looking at the incredible rocks, shooting up from the ground.

If you're ever in Vietnam, take a trip to Tam Coc.
