The journey here was quick compared to the ones we've experienced so far. We first took a train to Vac where we then waited until our train to Bratislava. We had reserved a later train but we thought we would try and get on this one as it would save us waiting around for hours! There was plenty of space so reservation wasn't needed. It took just over an hour to get to Bratislava, then it was a quick 5 min walk to our hostel, Freddie next to Mercury. After checking in and dropping our bags we headed out to find a supermarket and a cash-point; it took us a while to find one but we eventually did.
We spent the next few days mainly relaxing, as we were about half way through our trip so chilling was needed! You can do Bratislava in a day definitely so i wouldn't advice staying any longer then 3 nights, which is what we did. We busied ourselves by going to the zoo the first day, this was great fun and a really cheap day out! Student tickets cost 3.50 euros. We caught the number 32 bus from the train station to the zoo, we couldn't find out how to pay so we just hopped on for free (sorry mum)! There were bears, lions, tigers, giraffes, monkeys and rhinos! We got lucky enough to touch a rhino as it came up really close! Their skin is very tough.
On the second day, we relaxed in the morning and then wondered down into the old town. It was a good 30 min walk to the old town from our hostel, but we didn't mind the exercise. Whilst there, we saw the castle, Micheal's gate and other touristy sights. We also did some souvenir shopping. Then we stumbled across some sort of festival in the main square, which turned out to be a gypsy fest so we stayed and listened to the music for a bit, which was a good laugh.
Overall Bratislava is a nice small capital, and despite us not having a lot to do in it, I'm glad we came here and experienced some of the Slovakian culture. Our hostel was nice, we had a kitchen and bathroom within our dorm, which was nice because we could cook and eat without having to wonder down a corridor, and it's the same with showering.
