Cape Town

I've been quite busy these past few days so sorry for the lack of blogging! I also ran out of Internet but should be getting some more on the 1st of March.

Last Sunday I was talking to someone from the short term volunteer team and I was saying how gutted I was that I missed Ray and Sue (founders of BG) when they came to visit beautiful gate for a hand over ceremony. They suggested that I could always go down and visit them in cape Town! 4 days later and we were in Cape Town! I went with Iris who is another long term volunteer like me, she lived in Cape Town for 3 months with WYAM (youth with a mission) and so we were able to stay at WYAM muizenberg base. We caught a bus from ladybrand, it took us 16 hours to get there (it was an overnight bus).

My first impressions of cape Town was that it's beautiful, definitely more dangerous than little Maseru so I had to just be more aware especially when going on trains with luggage, but it was stunning! The weather was lovely and hot, the mountains were amazing and it just had a great buz about the place. It also made me realise how isolated lesotho is compared to this more westernised city.

During our stay we visited Ray and Sue, we had fish and chips on the beach. They are both amazing people with a clear passion for Jesus. They told us lots of stories about BG and how God had provided for their ever need. BG is just basically a testimony of God's goodness.

The next day Ray and Sue kindly took us up signal hill for amazing views of Cape Town and table mountain. They then dropped us off at the waterfront. I have a picture by the waterfront with my mum in 1998 and the same one in 2005 so it was fun to recreate it in 2017 (without mum though 🙁). They also have a big shopping centre with brands like Topshop and Calvin Klein. It was very weird being in such a big shopping centre where you could actually recognise the brands. After waterfront we got a taxi to bo-kaap which is an area full of really colourfully painted houses. I think they're painted like that because the people who lived there used to only be allowed to paint their houses white, but then they rebelled against the government and part of their protest was to paint their houses. (I think that's right). It's a very popular place to take pictures and alot of photo shoots are done there.

We also visited table mountain during our stay. It was really nice to just relax on top of the mountain with beautiful views and a cool breeze. It felt so peaceful to just be still and enjoy the time we had there.

The YWAM base in muizenberg is right next to the beach so most afternoons/evenings we would head down there to swim and lay on the beach. There were alot of surfers around! The sea also has sharks in it so sometimes the alarm would sound and we'd all have to get out of the water. I also got really sun burnt!

Living on WYAM base also meant that we were living with all the 'YWAMers' which was really cool! For those of you who don't know about WYAM it's similar to a bible school where people go to deepen their relationship with God. They have bases all around the world. So I had some great conversation with people about faith and heard amazing stories of how God has moved in their lives.

There were a lot of things that challenged me during this trip. I really got to thinking about what it means to live a life with Jesus. Sometimes I feel completely overwhelmed when I think about whether I'm living a godly life and all the mistakes I'm making but getting to spend some time with the YWAMers and living in lesotho, I'm slowly understanding what it means to commit yourself fully to God and to live an adventurous life. John 10:10 is my favourite verse because I love life when I'm fully living it with God and going on adventures with him. It's so much easier to live like that here because you NEED to rely on God, you're vulnerable and out of your comfort zone. This will be so challenging when I go back home to uni where I can rely on myself and others to provide but I pray that I'll live dependent on God.

I still love hearing from you! Thank you for the emails. I've also officially done a month!
