If you read anything written about Tauranga, New Zealand then you will definitely have seen the words 'Mount Maunganui'.
You can always tell whenever someone is in Tauranga because they will post a photo of mount Maunganui on Instagram and its true - it's such an Instagramable spot!
How long does it take to walk? The hike up the mount takes about 30 mins. You don't need to be kitted out, the first time I climbed it I was in flip flops and the second time I was in jeans. It's popular with both tourists and locals which is nice because you can experience a real sense of local life.
How do you get there? There is free parking along the beach which is perfect! So just type in Mount Maunganui beach and grab a parking space along the road.
Where can I eat? There are plenty of restaurants near the mount. I would recommend 'good burgers', they do a burger and a beer for $10. And Monte Gelato does delicious ice cream.
What else can I do there? Beach! There are surf stalls along the beach where you can rent boards and wet suits. TOP TIP: walk along the beach, away from the mount and you can find cheaper rental places. Boards are usually around $10 an hour.
