It took us under an hour to get to Vienna from Bratislava. When we arrived at the central station, it was a quick 5 min walk to our next hostel; A&O. We got a 10% discount here with our inter-railing pass. The hostel was similar to a hotel layout with 5 floors of rooms, although the rooms themselves weren't like a hotels at all, we shared with 4 other people and the place didn't provide a kitchen area or any facilities to prepare food. This meant we had to buy most of our meals.
On the first day we caught the underground, U1 line into the center of Vienna, right next to the cathedral. We then spent some time wondering around, getting a feel for the place before finding a money exchange to change our Kunas to Euros. We then found a big bus tour stop and purchased 48 hour tickets with our vouchers that we received in Budapest. The first places that we stopped off at were the Vienna museums, we visited the art museum and National History museum. All under 19s get in for free. It was interesting walking around the old building and looking at what was on display. I definitely preferred the Natural History museum; we even went in a planetarium and watched a show about how the earth was formed.
After that we got back on the bus and stopped at Danube island, this is on the same river that goes through Budapest and Bratislava. We ate dinner at this very popular restaurant called Ufertaverne on the other side of the river before getting the underground to Vienna hard rock cafe. We both purchased overpriced T-shirts there.
The next day we explored the Prater which is like a theme park. Its free entry and you only pay for the rides you want to go on, or you can buy a pass for all the rides for 40 euros. The Prater is also where you can ride the Wiener Riesenrad, which is Vienna's version of the London eye. You get great views of the city from here, and it's 9.50 euros for an adult. We spent the rest of the day on the bus tour getting on and off to look at various things such as the Palace, they have gardens there which we relaxed in. We didn't go into the Palace as you had to pay and we felt it wasn't worth it.
Overall Vienna is a very nice city with plenty to do, the zoo there was advertised as one of the best. We tried street food, and found out that they serve hot-dogs with mustard which neither of us like. There's also various water worlds and aquariums to visit. I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely come again, the city is very friendly and it is easy to find your way around and the underground is easy to use as well.
